She is my why.
I know that cancer, unfortunately, touches each of us throughout our lifetime. It took my mom in 2012. Before that, my dad had most of a lung removed (and is, thankfully, now cancer free). It stole my son-in-law's mama (my precious co-Grandma) from us way too soon. It hit home most recently for me when my niece was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 28 in April 2019. By July, she had undergone a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. In January 2020, the cancer recurred. She underwent a lumpectomy and then went through the rigorous Chemotherapy and Radiation treatment. Words that should not be in her vocabulary were now too frequently used. In that time, Sami and her husband, Justin, were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Lyla Grace. When her baby was only 3 months old, her mommy's cancer metastasized. We lost Sami to this terrible disease and we are forever heartbroken.
